Equinor’s 810MW Empire Wind 1 has been granted an injunction preventing enforcement of President Donald Trump’s shutdown order, and clearing the way for work to resume on the project.
Equinor said in a statement: “Empire Wind will now focus on safely restarting construction activities that were halted during the suspension period.
“In addition, the project will continue to engage with the U.S. government to ensure the safe, secure and responsible execution of its operations.”
Equinor had said in a previous court filing that the tight schedule around offshore substation installation meant that work had to resume by 16 January, otherwise the project would face “likely” cancellation.
The project is the second US offshore wind farm to win injunctions against the Trump administration this week, after Orsted’s 704MW Revolution Wind won an injunction on Monday.
Dominion Energy’s 2.4GW Coastal Virginia Offshore Wind is scheduled to plead its case before a Virginia judge tomorrow.
