UK outfit Granada Material Handling will supply 100 davit cranes for the turbine foundations at EDPR’s 950MW Moray East project off Scotland.
One crane will be fitted to each of the wind farm’s 100 jacket foundations and the scope of the contract includes the design, manufacture and commissioning of each unit, the company said.
“The Moray East contract is not only great news for Granada but also for our UK-based supply chain,” Granada Material Handling director Mark Sidwell said.
Each crane measures around 4 meters in height, 7.5 meters in radius, and weighs approximately 2000kgs.
The project will feature 100 MHI Vestas V164 turbines rated at 9.5MW.
Deme Offshore will begin fitting jackets at the project later this year.
UAE fabrication yard Lamprell is building 45 of the bases for the turbines and the remaining balance of 55 will be completed by Belgian firm Smulders.
Smulders will use UK facilities in the northeast for some fabrication and all final assembly of its components.
