Iemants and Jan De Nul have been contracted to provide two substation foundations for the grid link at Vattenfall’s 600MW Kriegers Flak offshore wind farm in Denmark.
The joint venture will design, procure, construct and install the hybrid gravity base and steel structures with work on the water planned towards the end of 2017.
Jan De Nul Group will take charge of design, construction, transport and installation of the foundations, while lemants will take care of detailed design, fabrication and transportation of the steel shafts and decks to be placed on top.
The steel structures will be prefabricated at lemants’ facilities in Belgium.
The foundations will be constructed on a pontoon at the port of Zeebrugge and towed to the Baltic Sea.
Jan De Nul’s backhoe dredger Gian Lorenzo Bernini and fallpipe vessel Adhemar de Saint-Venant will carry out excavation of the foundation pit and installation of the gravel bed.
Total value of the contract awarded by Danish transmission operator Energinet.dk and German counterpart 50Hertz is €31.6m.
The substations will take power from Kriegers but will also form part of a interconnector between the Danish and Germany electricity networks via EnBW’s Baltic 2 substation.
Vattenfall’s Kriegers project some 45km off the east coast of Denmark is due online around end 2021.
