Spanish company Navantia has won a £56m contract to fabricate the offshore substation for ScottishPower Renewables’ 714MW East Anglia 1 wind farm off the UK coast.
The topside and jacket will weigh 7700 tonnes and will be manufactured at the company’s Puerto Real yard in Cadiz.
As part of the deal, Navantia will look to tap UK steel suppliers as well as suppliers of cable, electrical accessories and other materials.
It is the second contract won by the Spanish company on EA1 after being confirmed last month as fabricator of 34 turbine foundation jackets for the project alongside JV partner Windar.
Siemens has been lined up to supply 102 7MW turbines to the Suffolk coast wind farm. First turbines are set to be installed in the summer of 2019.
