Njord SubSea has launched Prepare to Repair, a modular service designed to reduce subsea cable downtime and protect revenue for offshore power asset owners.
The service prepares developers, insurers, operators and investors for failures that can lead to revenue losses exceeding £500,000 daily during outages, Njord SubSea said.
Andrew Newman, CTO of Njord SubSea, stated: “Prepare to Repair is about removing the uncertainty that turns a single cable fault into a protracted commercial crisis. By pre-engineering response pathways and lining up specialist capability in advance, owners can make fast, defensible decisions and get assets back online sooner.”
The service combines strategic planning with rapid deployment capability, allowing asset owners to build bespoke frameworks for specific cable configurations and access specialist personnel within 24-48 hours when faults occur.
Recent projects with major developers including SSE, Transmission Investment and Elia demonstrate industry appetite for structured repair preparedness, the company added.
Typical cable repairs currently extend beyond 100 days, with procurement processes alone consuming 2-3 phases of approval before mobilisation begins, according to Njord SubSea.
The framework focuses on knowledge gaps in emergency decision-making, resource availability and insurance compliance requirements to reduce operational and financial exposure.
Newman said: “Reactive approaches to cable repair create compounding delays. Time lost to emergency decision-making, contractor negotiations and equipment procurement directly translates to lost revenue. Preparing frameworks in advance converts crisis management into structured execution.”
Prepare to Repair aims to shorten approval cycles, clarify stakeholder responsibilities and shift organisations from reactive response to pre-engineered readiness.
