Award-winning marine geoscience consultancy Ternan Energy has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with offshore transmission specialist Njord Subsea to provide integrated engineering and consultancy services for offshore wind and subsea cable projects.
Ternan, recently named Ground Engineering 2025 Consulting Firm of the Year, is an independent marine geoscience consultancy based in Aberdeen, supporting major offshore projects for clients including Ocean Winds, RWE Renewables, SSE, Orsted and CorPower Ocean.
Njord Subsea, founded by industry veterans Andrew Newman and Benjamin Vick, delivers specialist offshore grid consultancy and engineering expertise for renewable developers and transmission operators, with a focus on complex EPCI and megaproject-scale infrastructure.
Ternan Energy managing director Euan Marjoribanks said: “As offshore wind projects push into deeper waters and more challenging environments, developers need integrated expertise that spans from seabed to grid connection. This partnership brings together two highly complementary skillsets – our deep understanding of marine geoscience and foundation engineering, combined with Njord’s specialist knowledge of offshore transmission systems and subsea cables. Together, we can provide clients with seamless technical support across the entire offshore infrastructure challenge.”
The collaboration will enable both companies to jointly deliver complete scopes of work across all phases of offshore energy and subsea cable projects – from early development and site assessment through to installation, commissioning and operations.
Njord Subsea founder and director Benjamin Vick said: “The offshore wind sector demands more than isolated technical expertise – it requires consultancies that can bridge the gap between different engineering disciplines while maintaining absolute commercial focus. Ternan’s track record of delivering practical, cost-effective geoscience solutions aligns perfectly with our execution-focused approach to offshore transmission. Both companies share a commitment to independence, technical excellence, and delivering results rather than just reports. This partnership strengthens our collective capability to support the rapid buildout of offshore wind capacity that’s essential for meeting net-zero targets.”
Under the agreement, the two companies will share technical expertise and resources across engineering, design, construction and operational support, as well as jointly pursue new opportunities in offshore renewables.
Ternan Energy has grown from its 2016 founding into a £5m-plus consultancy with over 20 specialist staff across four UK offices, while Njord Subsea, founded in 2024, brings extensive offshore wind and subsea cable experience from its leadership team.
Both companies emphasised their continued independence and client-focused approach, ensuring technical recommendations remain driven purely by project needs.
