Northland Power has secured environmental impact assessment (EIA) approval for its combined 1800MW CanWind and NorthWind projects off the coast of Taiwan.
The two wind farms, unveiled by Northland at the start of 2021, are located off the coasts of Taichung county and Chunghwa, respectively.
By passing the EIA panel review, Northland said it was “one step closer” to building out its pipeline of projects in Taiwan.
A Northland spokesperson said the Canadian developer can now bid the projects into Taiwan’s Round 3 offshore wind auction, which launched this week to award 3GW of new lease rights.
Only four of 14 projects had confirmed EIA approval prior to the tender round kicking off on Tuesday (16 August).
Orsted achieved the milestone for its Xu Feng 1&2 and WPD for its Youde and Datien projects.
The Round 3 auction is accepting bids until 30 September.
