Petrofac and Hitachi Energy have entered into a collaboration to provide joint grid integration and associated infrastructure to support the growing offshore wind market.
The collaboration builds on the “complementary core technologies and expertise” of both companies in offshore wind to support the decarbonisation of power systems and deliver clean energy.
It covers high-voltage direct current (HVDC), as well as high-voltage alternating current (HVAC) solutions.
In the partnership Petrofac will deploy its engineering, procurement, construction and installation capabilities for offshore platforms and offshore and onshore civil works in combination with Hitachi Energy’s HVDC Light and modular HVAC grid technologies and solutions.
“Offshore wind plays a crucial role in the transition to clean, affordable energy and we’ve been successfully delivering major projects in the sector for more than a decade now,” said Elie Lahoud, chief operating officer, engineering and construction for Petrofac.
Lahoud added: “Hitachi Energy is well known for its long track record in providing innovative technologies and solutions across the power grid value chain.
“We look forward to bringing our industry-leading experience and deep domain knowledge together, to benefit our customers and power millions more homes using renewable energy.”
Petrofac has delivered projects for both HVDC and HVAC offshore and onshore substations for offshore wind farms across several of Europe’s leading developments.
In other news Petrofac issued a pre-close trading update for the six months ending 30 June 2022 and stated the “strong momentum in 2021 has continued to increase in 2022 with a series of early-stage awards” in its New Energy Services division and that it is “making material progress with developing further strategic alliances with technology providers”.
“In line with our strategy, a number of the early-stage opportunities we have performed engineering works on in new energy sectors beyond offshore wind are maturing and we are well positioned to secure execution phase project work later this year,” stated Petrofac.
