Reetec has launched a new inspection process for offshore wind turbine blades which the company says reduces safety risks for technicians.
The system is also quicker than the traditional method, which involves three technicians entering the blade, the EDF EN unit said.
Equipment including a rotary swivel head camera and a measurement laser is installed in about one hour to examine the blade.
It has been successfully tested in a 60-metre offshore blade in the North Sea as well as in onshore turbines.
“Next to the offshore test, 15 onshore turbines were tested successfully with the new system, which is now released for all new inspection projects,” Reetec technical director Claus Sejersen said.
