RWE has announced it will cease development of the Kent offshore wind project off the Gippsland coast in Victoria following a review of its competitiveness under current market conditions.
The company said the decision comes after nearly a year of feasibility studies and reflects ongoing uncertainties around supply chain costs and the future design of Australia’s offshore wind auction framework.
RWE emphasised that the decision applies solely to the Kent project and does not affect its broader Australian portfolio.
“We remain strongly committed to Australia’s clean energy transition and to Victoria’s renewable energy future,” the company said.
RWE added that it continues to develop, build and operate a diverse pipeline of renewable energy projects across the country, including large-scale battery storage and onshore wind.
Its Australian team, based in Melbourne and nationwide, is focused on constructing the country’s first 8-hour battery and advancing three gigawatt-scale onshore wind farms, including the Campbells Bridge project in western Victoria.
“These projects reflect our long-term view of Australia as a key growth market for renewables,” RWE said, thanking its partners, stakeholders and local communities for their support.
