A Seaway Heavy Lifting vessel is installing the substation and jacket for Vattenfall’s 288MW Sandbank offshore wind farm in the German North Sea.
The substation was built by Bladt Industries, Semco Maritime and ISC.
MPI jack-up Adventure will provide support services during offshore substation commissioning works at the project site some 90km west of the island of Sylt in water depths of 28 metres.
Meanwhile, internal cabling work for the wind farm by Visser & Smit Marine Contracting is in full swing, Vattenfall said.
Production of the nacelles, hubs and rotor blades for the wind turbines is also set to begin.
The Sandbank wind farm will feature 72 Siemens 4MW turbines, to be installed by MPI Adventure from August.
The foundations were fully installed by mid-February.
First export of power from the wind farm is expected before the end of 2016.
