Spain-based OffshoreTronic has unveiled a new fixed-bottom foundation design in collaboration with an unnamed Asian partner that could support 20MW turbines in water depths up to 90 metres.
OffshoreTronic said the ‘Tripod Plus’ design has two components, a tripod and monopile insert.
There are different ways for fixing to the seabed with pre-piled, post-piled or suction bucket options, the company said.
It added that the foundation is adaptable for all different types of soils and there is no size limitation and restrictions for fabrication and onshore logistics.
A foundation for a 20MW turbine would weigh about 3300 tonnes for the tripod and 1800 for the monopile, the company said.
OffshoreTronic said more details of the foundation and a presentation of the new partnership will be announced in January 2022.
