Vattenfall chooses Van Oord for offshore O&M

Vattenfall has awarded Van Oord a four-year operations and maintenance contract covering the former’s offshore wind farms totalling 2600MW.

Van Oord, through its MPI Offshore organisation, will provide jack-up and associated lifting services for main component exchanges for Vattenfall.

The contract, which was first reported in the subscriber-only newsletter reNEWS, includes planned and unplanned maintenance campaigns for about 600 turbines.

The deal has a mutual option to extend for one more year.

Vattenfall head of offshore wind Catrin Jung said: “In Van Oord we find a trusted partner who can help us improve our O&M activities even further.

“Guaranteed availability of jack-ups for the exchange of main components will lead to faster reaction times and ultimately result in a reduction of downtime and lost revenue.

“We look forward to extend our relationship and continue working together on Vattenfall’s ambition to make fossil free living possible within one generation.”

Vattenfall operates 10 offshore wind farms in Sweden, Denmark, Germany, the Netherlands and the UK.

During the contract period the company’s offshore portfolio will be extended to 622 turbines with a combined capacity of 2.6GW.

MPI Offshore is a UK based specialist in offshore wind installation owned by Van Oord.

Van Oord Offshore Wind managing director Arnoud Kuis said: “We are very proud that we have been selected by Vattenfall for this four-year framework agreement.

“This contract award builds upon an already excellent relationship between Vattenfall and Van Oord and fits within our strategic views of the market.

“We look forward to continue to provide the service levels that Vattenfall have come to expect.”
