Adani Green Energy Limited (AGEL) has commissioned the first turbines at its 30GW Khavda project in Gujarat, India.
The developer brought 250MW wind capacity online at the site, meaning 2.3GW of cumulative capacity has been made operational at the Khavda hub. When completed, the site will consist of 4GW of wind and 26GW of solar capacity.
It said the move further strengthens AGEL’s leadership in India with the largest operational portfolio of 11.1GW.
Khavda has one of the best wind resources in India, with speeds of ~8 meters per second making it an ideal location to harness wind energy, said the developer.
It added the Khavda plant is equipped with one of the world’s largest and most powerful onshore wind turbines of 5.2MW capacity each.
The machines feature a rotor diameter of 160 metres and a tip height of 200 metres and are built with German technology at AGEL’s integrated manufacturing hub near the Mundra port.
The energy from the Khavda plant will be able to power 16.1 million homes each year.
