Canadian developer Boralex has finalised a 40-year electricity purchase agreement for the 15MW Moose Lake wind farm in British Columbia.
Utility BC Hydro will buy the output under the province’s standing offer program for renewable energy projects up to 15MW.
The Moose Lake site is on Crown land about 24km northeast of Tumbler Ridge in the Peace region.
Boralex plans to install five turbines at Moose Lake. The wind farm will tie into the grid at the Meikle substation, part of Pattern Energy’s under-construction 180MW Meikle wind project.
Moose Lake is expected to produce 56 GWh a year and is anticipated to be operating by the autumn of 2017.
The project completed an environmental impact assessment under the BC Ministry of Forests, Lands and Natural Resource Operations’ development plan process and received a general area license of occupation in September 2014.
BC Hydro is reviewing a second proposal by Boralex, the 15MW Babcock Ridge scheme, also located near Tumbler Ridge.
