EDF Renewables has begun operations at the 344MW Folha Larga Norte wind farm complex in Brazil.
The Folha Larga Norte wind farm consists of 82 wind turbines and is located in Campo Formoso in the state of Bahia.
A total of 800 people were involved in the wind farm’s construction, mainly using local labour.
EDF Renewables begun construction of the project following the award of long-term energy contracts in two Brazilian federal competitive tenders in 2018.
The plant has also been awarded corporate power purchase agreements (PPA), including a 20-year PPA signed with petrochemicals company Braskem.
Since EDF Renewables first expanded into Brazil in 2015, it has built up a 1300 MW portfolio in wind and solar energy projects.
EDF Renewables’ portfolio includes more than 900MW of wind capacity in service or under construction in the states of Bahia and Paraiba, plus a 400MW solar plant located in Minas Gerais state.
EDF Renewables international operations executive vice president Frederic Belloy said: “We are delighted to have commissioned this new large-scale wind project in Brazil.
“The outstanding commitment shown by our teams and contractors with the implementation of the highest health and safety standards paved the way for successful delivery of the project during the extremely challenging pandemic period.
“By collaborating with local authorities and partners such as companies through corporate PPAs, we are able to harness our longstanding expertise while tailoring our services to the needs of our clients.”
