Energiequelle has begun construction of the 22MW Sömmerda wind farm in Thuringia, 20km from Erfurt, Germany.
The project features four Enercon E-160 turbines, each rated at 5.56MW and with a total height of 246.6 metres.
Energiequelle said the site will produce enough electricity for about 10,500 households and cut 27,000 tonnes of CO₂ a year.
The company submitted the permit application in December 2022 and secured approval in March 2024.
Construction will start in September 2025, with foundation work planned for May 2026.
The first turbine is scheduled to be commissioned in October 2026.
Energiequelle project developer Jürgen Fuß said: “The start of construction marks an important milestone for us and the region.
“The energy transition is becoming concretely visible here and we are pleased that it is finally getting started after such a long planning period.”
Energiequelle added that it has secured permits for three further wind farms totalling 66MW in Thuringia and has another 150MW in development.
