Envision Energy and Fortescue have formed a strategic alliance to accelerate industrial decarbonisation, starting with a 132MW wind turbine supply contract in Western Australia’s Pilbara region.
Fortescue said the partnership will support its goal of eliminating terrestrial fossil fuel emissions across its iron ore operations by 2030 under its Real Zero target.
The Pilbara project will deploy Envision’s EN182-7.8MW turbines on 188-metre Nabralift steel towers, which the company said are the tallest of their kind worldwide. The units are designed for low-wind conditions and to withstand extreme weather such as cyclones.
Envision said the project represents one of Australia’s first large-scale installations of the technology and will set a benchmark for renewable energy infrastructure by maximising generation capacity and efficiency.
The deal was announced at the United Nations General Assembly in New York, where Fortescue confirmed Envision as its strategic partner for wind and energy storage. The companies will collaborate across the supply chain, spanning generation, storage and grid optimisation.
Fortescue said its pathway involves deploying 2–3GW of wind and solar generation supported by large-scale batteries, connected into its operations through dedicated transmission links.
The Pilbara project is the miner’s first major wind development and part of a broader strategy to demonstrate the feasibility of low-cost, round-the-clock renewable systems for hard-to-abate industries.
