European Energy has inaugurated its first hybrid renewable energy park, located in Kronoberg County, Sweden.
The Skaramala project combines a 49.6MW wind farm of eight turbines with a 39.3MWp solar park. Together they are expected to generate around 126GWh annually, equivalent to the electricity consumption of more than 25,000 households.
The developer said hybrid generation enables more balanced production, with solar output peaking in summer days and wind production strongest in winter and at night. Connecting both facilities at a single grid point also reduced costs.
Executive vice president Thorvald Spanggaard said the scheme marks a milestone as the company’s first hybrid park to be developed, built and operated in-house. He added that combining solar and wind at the same site allows more efficient use of land and infrastructure.
European Energy highlighted biodiversity measures at the forested site, including preserving ponds, creating habitats around the park’s edges, and sowing plants to benefit pollinators. Existing soil masses were used in construction to reduce transport.
Maria Arnholm, Governor of Kronoberg County, officially opened the park at an inauguration ceremony by linking the solar and wind connections.
Skaramala is the first of three solar-wind hybrid projects European Energy is planning in Sweden, with Grevekulla in Ydre Municipality already under construction.
