Installation of turbine towers for Wales’ largest onshore wind farm, the 228MW Pen y Cymoedd developed by Vattenfall, will start early next week.
The Swedish company said the cranes were due to arrive on Friday at the site between Neath and Abderdare in South Wales. The cranes will be responsible for lifting the first two tower sections of each turbine into place.
Two tower sections for each turbine will be lifted into place before the arrival of larger cranes, expected in April. The larger cranes will lift the remaining components into place.
The height of the first two tower sections will total 37.2 metres.
The 76-turbine wind farm featuring Siemens 3MW turbines is being built under the Renewables Obligation is expected to be fully operational by spring 2017.
