The first turbine has been installed at Engie and Susi Partners over 200MW Tonstad wind farm in Norway.
Tonstad Vindpark will feature 51 4.1MW Siemens Gamesa turbines, with the exception of three which had their capacities reduced to produce less noise.
The electricity generated by the wind farm will be sold to Norsk Hydro to power the latter’s aluminium production.
Transportation of the 70-metre long blades for the turbines started at the end of June.
The route is has been challenging to negotiate due to small winding roads, needing work to modify them in advance, the developers said.
Each turbine has a total weight of approximately 650 tonnes and each blade weighs 17 tonnes.
The height of the turbines are 129 metres to the rotor, with a 200-metre tip height.
