Gamesa has installed prototypes of its new G126-2.5MW and G132-3.3MW turbines at the Alaiz research and development facility in Navarra.
The Spanish manufacturer said the G126-2.5MW unit is already producing power, while the G132-3.3MW model will start to do so in the coming days.
Gamesa said once both turbines are up and running, the next step will be to carry out the work required to have both models certified – a process expected to conclude within the first half of next year.
Assembly of the two turbines started in August, with the parts transported to Alaiz from various locations in Spain.
The G126-2.5MW machine’s 62-metre blade and the G132-3.3MW unit’s 64.5 metre blade came from Aoiz in Navarra, while the hub and nacelle were made in Ágreda in Soria.
The gearbox came from Burgos, the generator from Reinosa in Cantabria and the converter from Valencia.
The G126-2.5MW has a 126-metre rotor diameter and tower heights ranging between 84, 102 and 129 metres. It is targeted for low wind sites, Gamesa said.
The G132-3.3MW has been developed for medium wind speed sites primarily in Europe, Mexico, Canada, Australia and South Africa.
It has four different tower heights, ranging from 84 to 134 metres.
Gamesa added that prototypes of the G114-2.1MW and G132-5MW turbines are also currently installed at Alaiz.
