GE Renewable Energy has launched investigations into the collapse of a wind turbine at Omega Energia’s Delta 6 wind park in north-east Brazil.
The US turbine manufacturer said the machine collapsed on 3 September at the 54MW complex located at Paulino Neves in Maranhao state.
The company said one worker was injured and is receiving medical treatment.
“The safety of our employees is of the upmost importance, and we are supporting the injured employee and his family during this time,” a GE spokesman added.
There were three GE employees at the site when the incident occurred.
GE has yet to disclose the cause of the turbine collapse at the wind farm operational since December 2018.
“We are working to determine the root cause of this incident and to provide proper support as needed,” the spokesman said.
The manufacturer has yet to identify the model of the turbine.
Five GE turbines have collapsed so far this year in the Americas, three in the US and two in Brazil.
In July, a 1.7MW machine fell at the 216MW Ventos de Sao Clemente wind farm in Brazil’s Pernambuco state.
