Danish renewables and PtX developer European Energy has placed an order with Stiesdal for an electrolyser for a project in Maade, Esbjerg.
The agreement between European Energy and Stiesdal’s subsidiary, Stiesdal Hydrogen, is for a 3MW machine developed by Stiesdal Hydrogen that will be tested in European Energy’s green hydrogen facility in Maade.
Stiesdal Hydrogen’s electrolyser is based on conventional alkaline electrolysis with a novel, integrated design.
The support systems (water treatment, power supply and cooling) are fully modularised, and the complete system is well suited for low-cost industrial manufacturing.
European Energy is responsible for designing and delivering the complete balance of plant as well as constructing the Maade facility which will have a total electrolyser capacity of 12MW.
The machine supplied by Stiesdal Hydrogen will be able to produce roughly 270 tons of hydrogen a year when fully operational.
“With its innovative take on proven alkaline electrolysis, we find that Stiesdal Hydrogen is one of the most promising electrolyser manufacturers today.
“At European Energy we believe that their industrial approach and attractive cost level is a perfect fit for our un-subsidised hydrogen production at Maade,” said Emil Vikjær-Andresen, Head of PtX at European Energy.
Construction started late 2022 on the Maade PtX-facility and the facility will begin operation in 2023.
