Nordex Group is to supply 25 turbines to four subsidy-free wind farms in Finland to be built by OX2.
The order for N149/4.0-4.5 machines totals 107.4MW for the Langmossa, Ribacken, Ponsivuori and Verhonkulma projects, which OX2 has taken a final investment decision to construct.
Langmossa will comprise seven turbines and Ribacken five machines. Contractor Suvic will install foundations and build access roads and EPV Alueverkko provide the grid connection for both projects, which are located in in Malax Ostrobothnia.
Ponsivuori, which is located in Kurikka in South Ostrobothnia, will consist of seven turbines, with Keski-Suomen Betonirakenne installing foundations, access roads and the network and Caruna providing the grid connection. The hardware will also be equipped with an anti-icing system.
Six machines will be installed at Verhonkulma in Marttila, with Empower PN installing foundations, roads and the network and Caruna providing the grid connection.
All the orders include a 25-year service and maintenance contract.
IKEA Retail Finland, part of INGKA Group, is funding the construction and plans to acquire the projects when they are operational in the first quarter of 2020.
OX2 will continue to manage the technical and commercial operation when the wind farms are up and running.
OX2 Wind managing director Paul Stormoen said: “Finland is a market within which OX2 is steadily growing its wind farm portfolio. We are happy to repeat business with Nordex now.
“Thanks to our many years of experience, we are convinced that with the N149/4.0-4.5 we have once again chosen a highly efficient turbine type which can be flexibly configured for optimum yield under the respective conditions of the various locations.”
Nordex chief sales officer Patxi Landa said: “When developing the N149/4.0-4.5, we consistently focused on reducing electricity production costs along the entire value chain and optimised the maintenance and service concept accordingly.
“The resulting subsidy-free projects, including the long-term service contracts and the trust that OX2 have shown in us, confirm this strategy.”
IKEA Retail Finland sustainability manager Jessica Lehtinen said: “We want to have a positive impact on people and the environment by accelerating the transition to a low carbon economy.
“One part of this commitment includes to become energy independent by 2020 and with the investments in wind farms, we take a leap in efforts to produce as much renewable energy as our global units consume.”
