Nordex has launched an investigation following the collapse of a turbine at the Herkentrup wind farm in Coesfeld, in North Rhine-Westphalia state, Germany.
The German turbine manufacturer told reNEWS that on 27 October, the upper tower segment of an N149/4.X turbine, including the nacelle, hub and rotor blades, fell to the ground at the 13.5MW project.
“The damage was discovered in the morning. All necessary safety measures were implemented immediately after the incident,” Nordex said in a statement.
It added that “material damage was sustained” and that no-one was injured as a result of the incident.
“A team of experts from Nordex Group, in close cooperation with the customer, has begun investigating the cause of the incident,” the company said.
“However, at this point in time, no statement can yet be made regarding the underlying cause.”
The Herkentrup wind farm is located near Münster and consists of three N149/4.X type wind turbines with 125-metre towers.
The project was installed in 2023 and is owned and operated by Windpark Herkentrup GmbH & Co. KG.
