Planning officials are recommending that Shetland Island councillors offer no objection to Peel Energy’s proposed 59.5MW Beaw Field wind farm.
The project will feature 17 turbines of up to 145 metres on the island of Yell. Scottish ministers have the final say on the development under Section 36 legislation.
Turbine locations travel roughly northwest to southeast and site design is within criteria specified by major manufacturers Nordex, Senvion, Siemens and Vestas.
If approved, Peel is planning on a two-year build and hopes this can kick off in late 2018.
Construction will be contingent on a planned interconnector with the Scottish mainland and support under the planned remote islands wind element of the Contracts for Difference regime, it is understood.
The wind farm was mapped by initial developer Enertrag as an up to 65-turbine scheme. Peel took over in 2015.
