Vattenfall’s 54.4MW Ray wind farm in Northumberland has generated power for the first time 18 months after construction began.
The wind farm near Kirkwhelpington features 16 Senvion turbines each rated at 3.4MW.
Turbine A01 was the first to export green power to the National Grid, said Vattenfall.
When fully commissioned, Ray will produce enough power every year to meet the equivalent electricity needs of around 30,000 UK households.
Vattenfall construction manager for Ray Paul Nickless said: “Moving forward, Vattenfall and turbine supplier Senvion will be testing and commissioning the remaining 15 turbines to enable the wind farm to be fully operational by the end of March.”
Ray is Vattenfall’s seventh operational onshore wind project in the UK.
