Vestas has won a plum turnkey deal to build the 104MW Mannar mega-farm in Sri Lanka for utility-developer Ceylon Electricity Board.
The Danish manufacturer will delivery and install 30 V126-3.45MW turbines to the project, located on Mannar Island, and will also tackle civil and electrical engineering scopes.
The deal also includes a full scope service agreement.
Construction will get underway in the first quarter of 2019 and the project is due to be completed in the third quarter of 2020.
“We are very excited with this order and the opportunity to be back in Sri Lanka”, said Vstas Asia Pacific president Clive Turton.
“This tender signifies a clear indication of CEB and local policymakers’ intention to promote sustainable energy sources as well as increase the mix of sustainable energy in the local grid.”
He added: “Vestas looks forward to working together with our local partners and the local authorities towards this common goal.”
Mannar, which is fully funded by the Asian Development Bank, will be Sri Lanka’s first large-scale wind farm with previous projects usually tipping the scales in the 10-15MW range, said Vestas.
