Vestas has secured a 207MW turbine order for a US project where it will deploy a new variant of its 4MW platform.
The manufacturer will supply Duke Energy’s Ledyard wind project in Iowa with 46 of the new V150-4.5MW variant turbines and will service them for 10 years.
Turbine delivery for the Ledyard project will begin in the second quarter of 2022 with commissioning scheduled for the fourth quarter of 2022.
Vestas has also launched another 4MW platform variant, the V136-4.5MW.
The new variants offer an increase in annual energy production of more than 3% compared with the existing variants of V136-4.2MW and V150-4.2MW.
The increased power output is achieved while maintaining the same climate application space and noise level, Vestas said, applicable in some European, North American and south-east Asian markets.
“We have seen strong demand for the V150-4.2MW turbine, particularly in the US, and the new V150-4.5MW variant will continue to cement Vestas leadership in this segment,” said John Eggers, chief technology officer at Vestas North America.
“Vestas will continue to develop a modular product approach to meet market demands ensuring that Vestas’ products fulfil the expectations of our customers.”
