Vestas has received a turbine order totalling 29MW for the Mazara Messer Andrea wind farm in Sicily, Italy.
The contract includes the supply and installation of eight V136-3.45MW machines delivered in 3.6MW power optimised mode.
Delivery is planned for the fourth quarter of 2021, with commissioning expected in the first quarter of 2022.
Vestas will also provide operation and maintenance services to the wind farm, located in Mazara del Vallo, for at least 10 years through an Active Output Management 4000 service agreement.
The order has been placed by the Italian outfit E2i Energie Speciali, a company owned by F2i (Fondi italiani per le infrastrutture) and Edison.
E2i Energie Speciali chairman and Edison executive vice president of institutional affairs, regulation, climate change and sustainability Marco Peruzzi said: “We are pleased to enter into this new supply agreement with our long term partner Vestas to build our latest wind plant in Mazara, another step for the green transition and towards the de-carbonisation targets we are pursuing.”
Vestas vice president of sales for Southern Europe and Turkey Rainer Karan said: “We are proud to partner once again with E2i Energie Speciali, a key company for the development of wind energy in Italy, and one of our longer-lasting customers in the country.
“Their wind projects have featured many Vestas turbine variants, and with this order we once again showcase how Vestas’ technology continues to offer winning solutions to our customers in the Italian auctions.”
Vestas has now secured more than 1.3GW of contracts derived from auctions in Italy, where it has installed over 4.3GW since 1991, giving it an over 40% market share.
