German developer VSB Group has started construction of its more than 42MW Baranów-Rychtal onshore wind farm in Poland.
The project is located in Kepno in the Wielkopolska region and is set to feature 11 Nordex turbines, which are scheduled to go online in 2023.
The building permit for Baranow-Rychtal was approved at the end of 2019 and then the project was successful in the 2020 renewable energy auction, VSB said.
The wind farm will be capable of supplying electricity equivalent to the average consumption of around 36,000 households.
The company said that it is currently prevented from using higher, more efficient turbines as a result of Poland’s 10H rule, which requires developers to maintain a minimum distance from residential and conservation areas equal to 10 times the maximum turbine blade height.
VSB Energie Odnawialne Polska managing director Hubert Kowalski said: “We are liaising closely with the town of Baranów and the municipality of Rychtal to make the construction of the wind farm as smooth as possible.
“We look forward to working together and want to create added value for the communities and their residents.
“We are ready and willing to help shape the change to climate-friendly and cost-effective electricity generation.”
VSB Energie Odnawialne Polska senior project development manager Andrzej Latusek said: “We developed the wind farm project entirely ourselves from scratch, using wind turbines that nearly reach the 4MW class.
“This makes Baranów-Rychtal one of the most advanced projects in all of Poland, considering that the majority of wind farms are currently built with turbines in the 2MW class.”
VSB Energie Odnawialne Polska director of construction Marcin Sokołowski said: “We look forward to working together and want to thank both municipalities and their mayors for their support, but also our partners Nordex, the civil works contractor ONDE, and the electrical and telecom works contractor P&Q.”
