Goldwind Science & Technology has had the Zephir DM wind lidar system installed on its 6MW prototype direct drive permanent magnet wind turbine by Beijing New Energy Technology.
Goldwind said the lidar will be used for optimising the prototype before it enters mass production, measuring power curves, and understanding the effects of wind flow propagation on performance.
It said, working with DNV GL, the plan is to certify the turbine using Zephir wind data before the programme begins to focus on lidar-assisted control.
The turbine and lidar are operating at a test site in Dafeng in Jiangsu Province on China’s east coast.
