Acciona Energía has signed bilateral agreements totalling 800GWh of renewable energy with energy-intensive industrial clients in Italy including steel producer Acciaierie Venete.
The contracts were signed under Italy’s Energy Release 2.0 mechanism managed by Gestore dei Servizi Energetici, the company said.
The mechanism is designed to accelerate the deployment of new renewable capacity by linking industrial electricity demand with new generation assets, it added.
Energy-intensive industries will purchase renewable energy for three years at a fixed price of €65/MWh through GSE.
Acciona Energía will in return develop new renewable projects in Italy that will receive a fixed tariff over a 20-year period.
The framework links fixed-price energy supply with new generation and is intended to enhance revenue visibility for developers while strengthening competitiveness for industrial users.
Acciona Energía operates 156MW across four wind farms in Italy at Cocullo, Isola, Sant’Anna and Caccamo.
The company is also set to build two photovoltaic plants in Sicily, Panbianco with 100.8MWp and Benante with 50.2MWp, after being awarded 151MW of solar capacity in the latest FERX public renewable energy auction.
