The German government should use its upcoming presidency of the EU to strengthen the Green Deal, according to the German Renewable Energy Association.
Association president Simone Peter (pictured) said: “The German Council Presidency can be used to bundle the economy, social balance and climate protection and to give the Green Deal presented in February a much stronger meaning.”
European Renewable Energies Federation vice president Rainer Hinrichs-Rahlwes said the organisation and independent European renewable energy producers are “pleased that Germany is coming to Brussels with an impressive national package of measures in this difficult time”.
He said he hoped that the German government will “continue to strongly support” the Commission’s green direction, especially after the coronavirus.
“The promotion of renewable energies, especially in these economically and socially difficult times in the EU, must not be further hindered by rigid aid guidelines from the Directorate General for Competition,” he added.
German Nature Protection Ring political director Florian Schone said: “In the current crisis there is an opportunity to set the right course.
“That is why it is now important to act courageously and to make Europe fit for the future with a push for modernisation.”
