SSEN Transmission has suspended work at the Kergord to Gremista grid connection project in Shetland following a landslide incident.
The peat slip occurred on Tuesday (7 May) afternoon at a hillside area between Upper Kergord and the B9075 roadway.
The network company said no personnel were injured at the scene.
“As a safety precaution all site work has been stood down and the area secured until it has been fully assessed and made safe,” an SSEN spokesperson said.
“A full assessment of the area will take place to understand the extent of any damage to the hillside.”
The transmission scheme is not directly associated with the SSE Renewables’ nearby in-construction 443MW Viking wind farm project.
Overhead power lines are being installed to form a 22km 132kV link between Kergord substation – part of SSEN’s Shetland HVDC facility (pictured) – and the Gremista grid supply point near Lerwick.
