Rebecca Williams (pictured) has been appointed deputy chief executive of the Global Wind Energy Council (GWEC).
GWEC chief executive Ben Backwell, said: “Rebecca has played a leading role in developing GWEC’s work in the offshore space, and building enhanced cooperation between industry, investors and governments, as reflected in the creation of key initiatives such as the Global Offshore Wind Alliance and the Ocean Energy Pathway programme.
“This is a transformative decade for the wind industry, and the changes we are announcing today ensure that GWEC is in a strong position to support the industry through the short-and long-term challenges that will deliver the growth we expect for our members.
“I look forward to working with GWEC’s new deputy chief executive as we continue to support the industry and ensure that wind energy fulfils its potential as the backbone of the energy transition.”
Williams said: “This is an exciting time for both the wind industry and GWEC, and I am looking forward to stepping into this new role at such a crucial moment in the energy transition.
“With an ambitious global target for 3x renewables secured at COP28, and a new wave of wind markets around the world poised for rapid growth, my focus will be on supporting the industry to remove barriers and unlock bankable projects to put the industry on track for rapid growth.”
In other changes at GWEC, Stewart Mullin (formerly chief operations officer) has been appointed to the role of chief industry officer, where he will help develop sectors and markets, support GWEC’s work with the industry and ensure interconnections between the organisation’s increasingly diverse membership.
The global policy team, based in GWEC’s new Lisbon headquarters, has been strengthened with the addition of specialists in four areas key to wind energy’s continued growth.
GWEC welcomes João Esteves as grids specialist, Benoit Moreaux as a specialist on permitting & planning, Juan Tomas as a trade specialist and Nina Melkonyan on supply chains.
