Finnish power generation equipment maker Wartsila is to provide key components for compatriot wave developer AW Energy’s WaveRoller device.
Wartsila will supply metallic bearing housings, composite bearings, lip seals and hydraulic couplings for a 350kW commercial prototype wave generator to be installed off the coast of Portugal.
The company will also provide the necessary installation services for the device’s sub-assemblies.
“Emission-free wave energy has great commercial potential, and Wartsila is proud to work with AW-Energy in developing the WaveRoller,” said Wartsila Hydro & Industrial services general manager Les Creak.
“This innovative energy production technology also gives us an opportunity to offer our products and expertise to attractive new markets.”
