Zelestra has signed bilateral contracts totalling 1500GWh under Italy’s Energy Release 2 mechanism.
The company said the agreements include a long-term contract with Burgo Group covering 950GWh of renewable electricity supply.
Zelestra added the contracts support its plan to reach nearly 3GW of renewable capacity in Italy by 2026.
The Energy Release 2.0 mechanism is designed to link industrial electricity demand with the development of new renewable generation capacity.
Zelestra expects the agreements to support further solar capacity development in Italy in the coming years.
“The agreement signed with Zelestra represents a strategic step in the energy transition journey of the Burgo Group,” said Luca Sassoli, chief executive officer Burgo Energia.
“Thanks to stable supply conditions that are fully aligned with our industrial objectives, we will be able to reduce our exposure to market volatility and accelerate the decarbonisation of our production sites.”
“Energy Release 2.0 provides a concrete bridge between renewable deployment and industrial competitiveness,” said Eliano Russo, chief executive officer Zelestra Italy.
“Our agreement with Burgo Group demonstrates how long-term, structured energy solutions can create value for industrial customers while enabling the development of new clean capacity in Italy.”
