Iberdrola will celebrate its 125th anniversary in 2026 with a nationwide programme of activities under the theme 125 Light Years.
It includes technology and art exhibitions, music festivals, social events, illuminations of unique buildings and other initiatives across Spain, Iberdrola said.
Founded as Hidroeléctrica Ibérica in Bilbao in 1901, the company stated that it has grown to serve 100 million people and support jobs in Spain and worldwide.
The Bilbao Fine Arts Museum will host an exhibition from April featuring artworks from the company’s collection linked to its evolution over time.
Torre Iberdrola in Bilbao will stage the main institutional event in June, when a 125th anniversary book will be presented during a day of performances by the Bilbao Symphony Orchestra and Choral Society.
The company added that a public light show and musical performances with national and international artists will also take place.
Music festivals will be held at the Iberdrola Music venue in Madrid in June and at Roig Arena in Valencia in November.
Roig Arena will also host a forum on the social impact and driving force of the company’s activity over the last 125 years.
An interactive exhibition on the evolution of electrical technology will run at CentroCentro in Madrid between September and October.
In 2026, iconic buildings across Spain will be illuminated each month using sustainable technology, starting with the Royal Chapel of the Royal Palace in Madrid and ending with the Mérida theatre and amphitheatre and Basilica of Begoña in Bilbao.
The company will launch a website that will provide information on the anniversary agenda and audiovisual content showcasing real stories linked to its history.
