The US Department of Energy’s National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL) intends to issue a request for proposals in September 2020 for its next Collegiate Wind Competition.
The competition, which runs in the spring of 2022, is open to colleges and universities.
NREL said the 2022 competition will challenge students to design, build, and test a model wind turbine.
In addition, teams will plan, financially analyse, and present research on a hypothetical wind power plant.
The Collegiate Wind Competition is designed to help prepare college students from a variety of backgrounds for careers in wind energy.
By March 2021, organisers will select up to 12 teams of students to compete in the challenge, which will be co-located with the American Wind Energy Association’s Clean Power Conference in San Antonio, Texas, in May 2021.
