More than 100 women from the renewable energy sector gathered in Belfast to champion inspiring female voices as part of International Women’s Day 2025.
RenewableNI’s popular Women in Renewables event, in partnership with SSE Renewables and SONI, is the renewable industry’s only all-female event across the UK and Ireland.
It returned for a third consecutive year, providing a platform to highlight the contributions of women working in the renewable energy industry.
The theme of International Women’s Day 2025 on 8 March is Accelerating Action – and this includes taking steps to ensure equal pay, equal leadership, and equal opportunities for all working women.
RenewableNI’s event aims to promote female voices, tackle barriers to career advancement and encourage women in the renewables industry to be agents for change.
An all-female panel shared their own experiences about the challenges facing women in what is a male-dominated industry, the importance of women in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM), and their commitment to inspiring a new generation of female talent.
As part of RenewableNI’s commitment to increasing the number of women in the renewable sector, and advancing those already in the industry, a new mentoring programme developed in partnership with Belfast Metropolitan College and the Department for the Economy was also launched at the event.
RenewableNI chair Tamasin Fraser said: “These are the women who are literally powering the future, and I was honoured to chair an all-female panel of industry experts on the importance of STEM role models in the renewable energy sector.
“This event was the first of its kind in the UK and Ireland and one we all really look forward to. Women in Renewables has been hugely successful and grown year on year.
“It’s clear that representation matters, and events like these showcase the female leaders in our industry and provide younger women with valuable role models and mentors.
“Thank you to all the delegates who made it such a memorable and uplifting day.”
