Solar power production in Denmark broke several records during May, according to grid operator Energinet.
This month, both daily and hourly records have been broken for green electricity production from solar parks – and the monthly record is also on the verge of being smashed.
Senior consultant at Energinet David Hartz said: “This does not come as a huge surprise, because we have seen a massive expansion with solar in recent years.
“But it does come as a nice confirmation that we’re going in the right direction with getting green power from solar cells into the grid and that it’s having an effect.”
Five days in May saw a record production of solar power compared to last year.
The hourly record for solar production has also been broken as many as 16 times in May, Energinet said. In the hour when production peaked on 5 May, this corresponded to as much as 63% of Denmark’s electricity consumption being covered by solar power.
Whether the monthly solar record will be broken depends on the weather for the rest of this week.
The previous record was in June 2023, when 638GWh was produced.
