Global Power Generation (GPG) Naturgy Group has officially inaugurated Western Australia’s first large-scale hybrid solar and energy storage project.
The Cunderdin project consists of 229,500 solar panels with a photovoltaic capacity of 128MW, combined with a 55MW / 220MWh battery energy storage system (BESS).
The facility is designed to provide four hours of steady supply when there is no sunlight.
The project will generate energy equivalent to the annual consumption of 51,000 households and prevent the emission of 140,000 tonnes of carbon dioxide.
This week, GPG held an inauguration ceremony celebrating the project, which is its first large-scale photovoltaic generation and battery storage project worldwide.
The facility required an investment of €172m and its construction has provided employment equivalent to 100 full-time professionals.
Western Power chief executive Sam Barbaro said :”The energisation of the Cunderdin hybrid solar PV and energy storage project represents another milestone on WA’s net-zero journey.
