Vattenfall subsidiary Nuon is planning to build six solar farms totalling 70MW next to existing wind farms and traditional power plants in the Netherlands.
The company said it will be the first time in the Netherlands that these energy sources will be combined with solar panels.
The projects will be built next to the Wieringermeer, Oudendijk and Haringvliet wind farms and the Eemshaven, Hemweg and Velsen power plants.
Nuon said construction could start next year, if the Netherlands Enterprise Agency (RVO) – the Dutch government body dealing with renewable energy subsidies – accepts the company’s subsidy requests and local authorities give approval.
The company will also allow customers to invest in the solar projects through crowdfunding.
Nuon customer journey marketer Noortje Bakker said: “We can fulfill different customer needs with crowdfunding.
“Customers want to make smart use of their money and want to reduce their energy costs. By investing in solar farms they will receive an attractive return on their investment.”
Nuon said the customer financing of the project will benefit the business cases, “because the number of subsidy requests submitted to the RVO will thus decrease”.
