Romania has awarded almost 3GW of capacity in its second contracts for difference auction, bringing the combined total from its two rounds to more than 4GW, according to the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development.
The result surpasses the country’s Recovery and Resilience Plan target of 3.5GW.
More than 5.5GW of wind and solar projects were bid in the second auction, with solar prices falling as low as €35/MWh.
The EBRD said the auctions, financed through the EU Modernisation Fund, provide long-term revenue stability for developers and have strengthened the market framework for renewables.
Victoria Zinchuk, EBRD director for Romania, said: “This highlights the Ministry of Energy’s commitment to competitive auctions and well-structured support mechanisms, and it sets the stage for further progress, including the development of storage support schemes.”
The bank worked with the ministry to design and implement the CfD scheme and has since financed nearly 2GW of capacity in the country.
