AES Distributed Energy and SunPower are developing a solar storage project on the Hawaiian island of Kaua’i.
The project will consist of a 28MW SunPower Oasis solar system and a 20MW energy storage system.
AES will own and operate the project, which is expected to be operational by the end of 2018.
The power generated and stored at the plant will serve customers of the Kaua’i Island Utility Cooperative (KIUC).
AES Distributed Energy president Woody Rubin said: “As the result of a competitive bid process, SunPower Oasis power plant technology was selected to optimise the cost-competitive solar power generated for KIUC customers at this facility.”
