The chief executive of marine engineering outfit LOC Group has joined the advisory board of the TWIND project.
TWIND, which was launched earlier this year with a budget of €796,000, will create a network of specialised research professionals in offshore wind, to support an emerging industry in Portugal.
Offshore energy association WavEC is coordinating TWIND.
The project includes Spain’s Tecnalia Research & Innovation, the UK’s Offshore Renewable Energy Catapult and Delft University of Technology, in the Netherlands.
TWIND is aligned with several National and European priorities.
They are the UK government’s Industrial Strategy, the Portuguese Industrial Strategy for Ocean Renewable Energies, published in 2017, and the SET Offshore Wind Implementation Plan, adopted in June 2018.
The plan was established to support development of a supply chain in Portugal for floating offshore wind.
LOC Group chief executive RV Ahilan (pictured) said: “Being asked to join the advisory board for such an important project is a great honour and I am delighted to accept.
“We have played a significant role in global wind farm developments, having been involved in more than 80% of global wind farm constructions to date, and the evolution of wind technologies remains a core focus of LOC Group.”
