Energiequelle has started building the Werther and Bleicherode wind farm in Thuringia featuring four Nordex N163 turbines.
The developer is working with Helmetal eG and Feuer powerair on the scheme, which will install 6.8MW units with 164-metre hub heights.
The project will in theory power around 15,000 households and cut approximately 37,000 tonnes of CO₂ equivalents a year, according to Energiequelle.
Planning began a decade ago and approval was granted in September 2024 after a November 2022 permit application.
Construction follows a successful bid in the April wind tender, with foundations due in April 2026 and commissioning slated for January 2027.
Maria Löther, project manager at Energiequelle in Erfurt, said: “Both the municipalities and the landowners, as well as our cooperation partners, have shown great patience. The start of construction marks an important milestone and confirms that our trust in the project has paid off.”
Hans-Jürgen Weidt, chairman of the supervisory board of Helmetal eG, said: “Revenue from the wind farm will help refinance a community wind turbine – laying the foundation for local citizens to benefit from the expansion of wind energy in Thuringia.”
The Werther scheme is the second Energiequelle project in Thuringia following Sömmerda, with further builds due in 2026.
