RWE has started construction of two onshore wind farms in Italy with a combined capacity of 92MW.
The Serra Palino project in Apulia will feature eight turbines of 5.9MW each for a total capacity of 47MW, while the Venusia project in Basilicata will comprise eight 5.6MW turbines delivering 45MW.
Both projects were awarded under the FER1 auction and are scheduled to be commissioned by the end of 2026. Once operational, the wind farms will produce enough clean energy to power more than 83,000 Italian households.
RWE Renewables Italia country chair Paolo Raia said: “Our commitment to supporting the energy transition continues unabated. After the commissioning of the Mondonuovo wind farm in July, we have started the construction of two new onshore wind farms in Italy. Once operational, these plants will provide green energy to over 83,000 Italian households. Onshore wind energy is a pillar of the country’s energy transition in its own right: it is clean, reliable and affordable.”
RWE operates 17 onshore wind farms in Italy with a total installed capacity of 598MW, supplying renewable electricity to more than 500,000 homes. The company is also constructing its first commercial-scale agri-PV plants, Morcone (9.8MWac) and Acquafredda (9.3MWac), both located in Campania.
